Hearing God's Voice is not the Norm in the New Testament

I've heard this response numerous times lately from well-meaning Christians. What do you guys this about this response? I think it's false, but if someone asked you this what would you say in return?

Over the years, even after I was saved, that view persisted until my spiritual state was not only powerless but pathetic. As the Lord worked to correct that viewpoint in me, the scripture that pressed me to the point of leaving the organization that supported it was:
2 Tim 3:1-5 But realize this, that in the last days difficult times will come. 2 For men will be ..... 5 holding to a form of godliness, although they have denied its power; and avoid such men as these.

Comment by Jeremiah Dunlap on January 13, 2010 at 2:08am: As a brief introduction to this group, I've been pursuing the Spirit-filled life for six months now, but only this week have I come across some people who strongly disagreed with me on issues surrounding the validity of the gifts of the Spirit, whether or not miracles, healings, dreams, visions etc were normative for this day-in-age or whether or not God even speaks today.
I'm no genius but then I'm no intellectual push over either, so I think if I gave some of these questions and objections some careful study and thought I could answer pretty much all of them. I do have to say that hearing these objections has caused me to think through these issues more carefully and has driven me for answers to other believers and the Scriptures too.
In the near future I'll post some specific objections I've encountered and I hope to foster some healthy disccusions about these important issues.
I'd also like any of you who have heartfelt questions or even doubts to know that I want this to be a safe and confidential environment to bring up any concerns on your heart.
