Carol and Lori -

So glad to see this discussion about hearing Him.  I am taking the Hearing the Voice of God course, but I love to see/hear what helps others in getting into that place of stillness and rest.  I am very left-brained, so it is hard to come out of "study-analyze" mode and into rest.  But I am learning!  Lori - what do you do when you sit down to have your time with the Lord?  I find it hard to get settled down and focused.  I do picture Jesus, sometimes in a Bible story, and that helps.  Thoughts?

Blessings to you both!

Hi Amy, Sorry I've taken so long to get here. The reason I couldn't do much with hearing God or vision was just corrected when on Jan. 1st I surrendered what was shown to me to be an idol. Things started happening after that. I learned from a science standpoint that we are receiving images all the time. I was taught to breathe deeply and relax and then vision comes easier. My first one was brief and of a picture of the clutter from that idol being rolled over to a bulldozer. Immediately I heard Get Rid Of Clutter. I've been doing that gradually as time allows.
Another thing happened and the result was waking up one am with the words "I walk in Divine health and Abundance." I was to say that and not what the circumstances are.
The next vision was of a water drain hole and a mound with a hole on top. The words came to drain the negative and fill up the positive. Isn't that awesome? From my experience make sure there are no other idols and that you are being obedient in all you know or ask Him about that. I have not been able to journal anad hear God on a regular basis yet, but it may be just a matter of faith for it. What do you think about that? I know breathing deeply and relaxing giving it time may bring results then or by the next a.m. I love to worship the Lord with my harp-like instrument, and pray in tongues, but it takes more for me: the science that we are receiving images all the time. Of course we hear God is speaking all the time also. So I'll be in prayer for you and would appreciate the same, ok? Thank you, Carol
Hi Amy,

I just saw your posting today, forgive me for the delay in getting back to you. I did not get an email noting there was a posting. For me, I find that inner stillness is the real battle. Usually, what I have to do, is to talk to the Lord about the distractions in my heart. These distractions could be an offense, a bitterness, a frustration, or even an idol (my mind focused on a desire apart from God). All of these for me, hinder stillness because my heart and mind will be focused on that. So, I usually confess and repent of anything going on in my heart. And then the next best thing - is worship for me, and jumping into the Word by reading a daily Bible. The Lord will then start illuminating something in His Word and He will begin touching my heart.

For me, stillness and silence of the heart is a bigger thing to calm than the distractions outside of us. I have to look at this intimate time with the Lord as a date, as a time when I slow down and I give him my whole heart. But often, I can't do this when something else is consuming it. Psalm 73:25.

Will be praying for your journey with the Lord! There is nothing compared to the priceless gain of knowing Him. Phil 3:10.

Much love in Jesus,
Lori
well what helped me was resting in His grace though Jesus Christ.
Important lessons I learned from Joseph Prince ( I may not agree with or understand all of what he means but he really helped me a lot) , Andrew Wommack.
Also Jesse Duplantis ( several times he talks about his conversations with God., which helped me believe that I could hear God like him , like that its possible to hear God like a friend.

For me its been a struggle to rest, like serious issues..but I was told to "know you name"

eg. sonship, Christ is my life. my only life, completely my life,
I am debtor, but not to the flesh or to live according to the flesh( in my case not to live under law , for Jesus has redeemed us from under the law, this verse can also mean you know living like the world)

but knowing the perfection of what God did in Christ. complete. you can enter in. This is a number I have been reminded of over and over again -7 (seven)
Knowing the finished work of Christ.

also a verse to

Hebrews 4:14-16 meditate on that
Ephesians 2 :18, Eph. 3:12
Also worshiping has helped me.
Thanks so much! I will be praying for each of you. I will also ask God to examine my heart and tell me if I have any idols still affecting my ability to hear.
Thanks again!
Amy
