In 1977, when I was still a very young Christian, I attended my first New Year’s Eve Watchnight service at a local church. At one point in the service everyone was asked to pick a piece of paper from a type of grab bag that was at the altar. The paper contained a scripture verse that was to be a promise or a theme for the upcoming year. A team from the church had prayed over these verses, asking God to match up verse and believer.
