Let us revert to God’s original plan for man.
Genesis 1: 26-28
Then God said, “Let us make man in Our image, in Our likeness and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.” So God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every living creature that moves on the ground.”
God created and empowered man with the same DNA that He has. In other words, man had to be wired to function like God in order for His purpose to be achieved on earth. It is for this reason that Adam was given dominion over all things. He was mandated to be fruitful, to subdue the earth and to ensure that God’s legacy would be passed on to all generations. Had Adam not sinned, it is reasonable to assume that the whole world would still be flourishing in the presence of God’s glory today! However, his failure has left us with the awesome responsibility of standing in the gap and seeing to it that the job gets done right this time. This we execute through the power and authority of Jesus Christ (Philippians 4: 13). In Christ we have the ability to leave a legacy for our children and theirs to build upon.
Proverbs 13:22a
“A good man leaves an inheritance for his children’s children.”
Now, when the world speaks about leaving an inheritance for their dependants to get a head-start in life, they are usually referring to anything associated with property or money. After all, most parents would not desire to see their seed suffer unnecessarily as they embark upon life’s great journey. In many cases people tend to focus only on world doctrine. They fail to recognise the importance of leaving their children or grandchildren with a good inheritance grounded in the Word of God. As a result, our offspring grow up primarily influenced by a standard that will cause them to fail dismally when having to cope with the challenges that the god of this world throws in their path. And, when parents fail to pass on the gospel of the Kingdom to their children, it could result in a generation passing by that may never know or experience our awesome God. For this reason, when we build our family’s Kingdom legacy, we need to do so with excellence so that it will stand the test of time.
