Perfectionism is the enemy of grace. Perfectionism is unhealthy. It makes you unhappy with anything less. Seeking excellence is different, though. Excellence is something that is more attainable to everyone, at their current level of ability. Choosing not to do something out of fear of failure is from the perfectionistic tendency. You live in clutter far too long, because you get discouraged because it will never look perfect, instead of keeping up with the clutter to the best of your ability and enjoying the overall feeling of order.
Seeking excellence lifts you up. It lets you accept your current ability. It encourages. Your excellence is different form the next person's...and from what it could be in 6 months, if you spend that 6 months striving for excellence. If it's worth doing, it's worth doing to the best of your ability. And if it's not worth spending the time on striving for excellence, maybe that's a sign that it's something not worth your time at all!
